They are a genre in themselves. For long, they remained neglected on the world platform but slowly they are getting their due recognition.
In the recent years, many of the Indian films have got released in the Western countries and some of them have done well. No doubt, the primary reason for this is the ever-swelling number of Indians abroad. But, even otherwise, the West has now started taking note of Indian Films- a unique mix of songs, dances, melodrama, emotions and moral values. They have understood that the Indian Films have remained largely unaffected by Hollywood and they have retained their uniqueness.
With increasing appreciation and increasing demand in the West, the Indian Film market, more so the Hindi Film market, has responded with great enthusiasm. More and more films are now being released for outside marker and trade from abroad has come to occupy an important place ion a films net earnings.
This is a positive sign. Equally exhilarating is the fact that many of the Indian films are getting out the set routine format of six songs, one rape, two sleazy scenes, three fight-sequences, a few tear-jerkers etc etc. They are becoming more and more theme oriented. This is an extremely welcome change.
Films are the most powerful mass-media mankind has devised so far. It is life personified on screen. Hence it is very relevant that this is taken in a serious vein and not regarded merely as a moneymaking venture. They are the pulse of the nation. They relate with the culture and social status of a country or a region. They affect the viewer’s mental makeup. Thus, we all have the responsibility to see that films keep up to their social obligations as well. They need to have some sort of official and unofficial modes of regulation. And what better way of moderation and control than public opinion.
This site is an attempt in the same direction. I hope it will get your whole-hearted support.

Amitabh Thakur
